The Good News of Jesus Christ

For many, the knowledge of Jesus comes from family tradition or what has been heard or read piecemeal in sermons, classes and publications over the years.  Often this is a jumbled collection of topics tainted by human doctrines confusing the actual message from God. Although the truth can be found in what God has revealed through the inspired text of the Bible, some are too intimidated by the Bible’s volume and content to investigate things for themselves.

Christianity is not really hard to understand, nor does it require a blind faith.  It is a logical accounting of reality that provides meaning and purpose to life and death.

Recommendations for Bible Study Leaders

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, the apostle Paul declared that Christians are to be “Ambassadors for Christ” as though God were making an appeal through us urging all to be reconciled to God. Often this appeal is made person-to-person teaching the Good News of Jesus in individual Bible studies. With that in mind, this article is written to provide Bible study leaders with suggestions and recommendations about important things “to do” and “not to do” when conducting individual or small group Bible studies.

  • Before initiating the Bible study, get to know your students
    • Inquire about their religious backgrounds
    • Listen carefully & do not interrupt
    • If they profess to be a Christian, ask when and how they became one
      • This may identify future study topics and teaching opportunities
    • Briefly tell about your background as appropriate
      • But don’t dwell on yourself
      • You are not the focus
    • Be open and earn their trust
    • Set a relaxing tone for the study
  • Establish ground rules and agree to them
    • The Bible must be the sole source of spiritual authority
    • Not religious traditions or human doctrines or institutional creeds

How to Initiate Bible Studies

In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”  What was true 2000 years ago is still true today. There can be no doubt that the world needs to hear the saving message of Jesus Christ. Christianity offers hope to our troubled world and can bring peace, comfort and encouragement to struggling souls.  However, more evangelists are needed.

The message has been revealed, but how do we reach those who need to hear it?  How do we train more evangelists and then find people who are willing to study the Bible to learn more about Christianity?  Personal evangelism is a challenge that many Christians dread because it means engaging in spiritual discussions on a very personal level.

Human beings were created in the image of God with the prospect of living with Him in eternity. Choices made by humankind not only affect the quality of life on the earth but also what happens beyond the grave. We must not allow physical distractions to deter us from fulfilling God's expectations. His promises are real and the stakes for humanity are high.

Divine Truth transforms troubled lives by revealing the error of our ways and directing us to the lifestyle God always intended for humanity. Following His guidance not only leads to an improved quality of life on earth but also restores our broken relationship with God and holds the promise of an enduring peace beyond the grave in Heaven with Him.

Why Is Transformation Important?

The best advice for those who find themselves trapped in a deep hole is to stop digging. Through selfish desires, foolish actions, or shear ignorance, all of us have managed to fall short of God’s expectations and thereby place ourselves in that proverbial “deep hole”. In the process, we have created personal hardships, hurt others, and more importantly managed to alienate ourselves from the Creator. These things have profound implications not only for life on earth but for what awaits us beyond the grave. A divine transformation is needed to get us back on the right track.

What Is The Truth That Transforms?

The truth that transforms is a Divine Truth revealed by the almighty Creator of the universe. Having designed the heavens, the earth, and everything in them, He alone is the source of knowledge governing all aspects of our existence. As a loving father cares for his children, so God wants only the best for humanity. That is why He has revealed the Truth about who we are, how we should live, and what the futures holds. For those who submit to His will, the end result is a personal transformation that not only leads to a better quality of life on earth but also an eternal home in Heaven.

All human beings are precious in the sight of God. We were created that way. Our true value and identity do not come from physical attributes but rather from the spiritual bond we share with the Creator. That explains God's love for us and the sacrifice He was willing to make to preserve fellowship with humanity.
